Nettlebank Pygmy Goats

So you're interested in showing

Showing your goat can be fun and provides you with the opportunity to gain information from other goat owners and make new friends. The pygmy goat club is where you will register your pygmy goats you can also become a member of the club.

Contact - Mrs J Richardson,18 Castle Avenue, Datchet; Slough, Berks, SL3 9BA, Tel: 01753772971. They have shows in Britain but unless more people want to show in Northern Ireland we are unable to have an official pygmy show. So come on get showing in Northern Ireland.

You might now ask how? I show though the Northern Ireland Goat Club, I became a member of the club and I have shown at several shows. The members don't only show pygmies but other goats as well. Why not join in!!! E-mail me for further information.

Showing your pygmy means getting your goat used to walking on a lead, once your pygmy can do this learn it to stand in order for the judge to be able to examine it. They will look at its teeth, run their hands over it and check the masculine bits! If your goat looks better than the others you win. You will need to bath and shampoo your pygmy before showing and leave him to dry. Next you will need a pin brush and brush the hair all over this will get rid of any dead hair and seed heads left in the coat. Check his hooves one week before the show in case they need trimmed. Some people like to gloss the horns with baby oil. Bring some hay and water with you to the show, and keep your fingers crossed. GOOD LUCK!!!
